Eurocomix Tattoo = COMPLETE!

My new tattoo is entirely relevant to your interests, insofar as you are interested in a) Eurocomix and b) my evolving excellence. I figured I'd share pictures of the completed work and answer a few questions before you had a chance to ask them:

  1. Yes it's real, yes it hurt and yes I'm aware that it's permanent ;)
  2. It took six hours' total over three sessions (fine line work was completed on Monday after the outline and fill-in sessions healed).
  3. The artist is the incredibly talented and thoroughly wonderful Stephanie Tamez of New York Adorned.
  4. The panels come from various fumetti and artists represented include a LOT of Guido Crepax (including the lovely Valentina) and some Milo Manara (Jolanda, the lady pirate).
  5. I totally love working a day job that pays for an unending stream of weird DVDs and body art.

Click on any of the pictures too see a larger version, or go to the Flickr gallery and see the work in progress pics as well.

Beautiful, really. Just astonishing.

You're making me want new ink. Maybe profiles of Coffin Joe and Paul Naschy, glaring at each other on my back? If I wasn't as hairy as Waldemar Daninsky, it might be a Sound Plan.

Congrats on the tatts! :)

Wow! That is awesome. I love it. Very cool. It really hits you when you see it. She did a great job. My brother is big into tattoos. I think he's got like 10. I've never gotten one myself. I admire so much of the work though. I hope you love it and will bring you many years of enjoyment seeing it when you look at it.

I admire both your personal fortitude (there isn't *anything* I like to do for six hours) and how *you* that tattoo is. It is a thing of lurid beauty.

If I didn't tell you already, I am really smitten with that tattoo. It's just very uniquely "Empress" and the artistry is beautiful. Yet another reason for me to wish I lived in NYC, so I could engage Ms. Tamez's services myself.

Gorgeous!!

Wow, I love it, it looks so fantastic. It is sexy, unique and stunning, just like the woman who wears it.

I wish I could get a tat.

And somewhere John Phillip Law is probably smiling as well, I bet.

She does great work. Wonderful fine detail... but hey, it doesn't even look red! Are you SURE it's real? It's not one of those Silly Putty/newspaper transfers?

Ahh your tattoo puts my lame ass kanji one to shame! Just beautiful and stunning and really fits you!

Matt just got an amazing book this weekend on the history of erotic comix, and he took great delight in pointing out the creators of your tattoo to me!

You're a human fumetti--gorgeous work!

My own tattoos are modest and hidey-hidey, but I've long thought about getting a tattoo of Gene Colan's Dracula.

Absolutely stunning! Great tattoo.

That is the coolest tattoo, ever.

Hot. Speaking of Eurocomic tattoos, I was seriously considering getting Dylan Dog somewhere. Then I realized I can't actually -read- those comics, I just think they're pretty.

Congratulations Kate. I've seen most of the comix featured on your tattoo (I'd say I read them, but my Italian is not "moto bene"). I like the Diabolik lurking at the top. No tattoos on me (it's against my religious beliefs), but I can appreciate an interesting and well done example on others. Your artist did an awesome job, as they look like the originals by the Italian masters.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words! Y'all are seriously too sweet. Of course Stephanie deserves the credit--I just sat still during the application process!

Vicar--how about a "hear no evil/see no evil/speak no evil" with Jacinto, Xe and Madman Mars? I can see it now...

Flightless--DAMN! Maybe I've been the victim of an elaborate hoax. I'd best not shower so as not to rinse off this undoubtedly delicate masterpiece D-:

Crossbones DJ--Oooh--now I need to know the title of this mysterious and awesome book. I'll also take a moment to wish Matt continued success with his own fumetti project :)

Beyond the Wall of Sleep--I actually edited out a few panels I'd initially chosen, one of which was a DD image that just wouldn't have reproduced well (I was also hearing the voices of people asking me why I had a tattoo of Rupert Everett on replay in my head and the mere thought of this exhausted me). Did you get the English translations of the few issues of DD that Dark Horse released some number of years back? Those were REALLY neat. I was so upset that they didn't wind up being a hit, because it would've been great to see more titles available in English. But yes--appreciating the wonderful pictures will need to be sufficient for now :)

>>how about a "hear no evil/see no evil/speak no evil" with Jacinto, Xe and Madman Mars?

This is a totally sound idea. Well, almost--in order to make it POIFECT, it would have to be "Hear EVIL/See EVIL/Speak EVIL," for which I'd have to make sure Jacinto was in Alaric de Marnac mode rather than Daninsky. And Marz would actually be "SMELL EVIL!"

Still, I'll get my monastic illustrators working on it pronto!

This makes me crave new and better ink. It's quite gorgeous.

I confess I'm having trouble getting past the first picture or focusing on the tattoo.

Splendid! Here I thought Guido Crepax was being forgotten, but now I see his work etched and immortalized in flesh. Dare I say, the Master himself would have approved.

SQUEE!

You are forever (even more) beautified. And NSFW!

We shall miss you at Horrorfind this weekend, dahlink...

Kitty LeClaw said...

Wow... Just, wow. That might well be the hottest skin-ink I've ever seen.

5/5 Kitty Skulls = I think I just came!

The one I got on my back was THE last. I live vicariously through you now, and you do me so proud.

Tenebrous Kate said...

Many, many thanks to everybody for your supportive awesomeness. I'd initiate a group hug if my icy, Teutonic reserve did not dissuade me from such outpourings of affection!

Arbogast--yes, I know, the red eye in my photos vexes me incredibly. I try to Photoshop it out but... Oh HEY! I see what you did there! At least I feel like I earned my Half-Assed Orlock drawing now ;)

Pierre--Thanks to this ink, I think I've helped push a few folks towards Crepax's work--I jotted his name down on the back of a Starbucks napkin for someone just this Sunday. I'm a walking comix history billboard now!

Kitty--I'LL BE IN MY BUNK.

I attempted numerous times to get my hands on the Dark Horse issues (I try to avoid trades - call me a purist) but I kept getting "backorder, backorder, backorder".
But yeah, I understand what you mean about the Rupert Everett thing. Still, you could tell them you love Delamorte Delamore and snicker because they'll never know.

If this sends multiple times, blame the browser goblins.

Absolutely awesome! Puts Eastern Promises well and truly in the shade.

Color me jealous. Yours look so much sexier than the Cathy tattoo Unkle Lancifer gave me.

Those are great! What an awesome idea!

I love the panels.

Tenebrous Kate said...

Again--more thank yous are in order :)

Benjamin--wow, you know from comix! Just checked out your website and I'm LOVING the rough-n-tumble nun drawing. Awesome work!

You never stop ruling. I feel the need for more ink, now!
