"It's a Man's World: Men's Adventure Magazines. the Postwar Pulps" - Feral House, 2003

Ohhhh Feral House Publishing, how I love you and your bounty of spectacular bizzaritude. What you're looking at below are two of the AMAZING pulp magazine covers reproduced in the 2003 publication "It's a Man's World." Just in case you didn't get everything you wanted under your Giftmas tree, I recommend placing an order for this 280+ page, full-color orgy of exploitation excellence.

"Wildcat Adventures" appear to be the best KIND of adventures, just brimming with boobs and bondage:

'

OK, so it's not really "Death By Cats," but I'm counting it since it'd be less useful to include a "Death By Catgirls" tag on the Love Train.

'

It's the NAZI KILLER QUEEN's monocle that really finishes the outfit and exudes style, don't you think?

"The Baron of Nevada and His Branded Broads"—weird (Nevada?), perverse, and full of alliteration!

I love looking at these type things. When people say society is going to hell, I say it has gone, baby! The '50s weren't just Leave it to Beaver!

Hey Kate, funny you should be posting about this. I just started up another blog called "Lots of Pulp" (get it? :-)) where I basically showcase random awesome pulp magazine covers on a daily basis. Check it out at your leisure:

I have to give due praise to the Albany Public Library, for not only do they have an excellent DVD collection, but they also carry this book, which I can highly recommend.

"EXPOSED: SCHOOLS OF LOVE FOR RICH MEN'S SONS"

Hmm. I wonder what kind of financial aid programs they offer? I'm no fortunate son (It ain't Me...), but might be able to get in on an...*ahem*...athletic scholarship.

IYKWIM. ;)

Darius, the Nevada thing has occasioned much controversy and discussion! I'm thinking it's a reference to the attempted Nazi invasion of Las Vegas in 1943--fortunately for us, Our Boys managed to snipe down the invaders as they were attempting to but a giant armband on the waving neon cowboy on the strip.

Thank you for the link, B-Sol! Yet another gem in the crown that is your blogging empire ;)

Samuel--indeed! I will personally raise a toast to the goodness that is a well-equipped library.

Ooo errr, Vicar...!

I found this in Barnes and Noble's sale/remainder section for $15... a bargain at $150!

Oh wait, it's Taschen not Feral House, mine that is...

What do I know? "I led the 'Pink Panties' brigade against Cuba's Butchers!"

Yeah, the Taschen book Erich is talking about it (or one of them anyway) is called Men's Adventure Magazines... a very awesome collection that I too picked up rather cheaply at Barnes and Noble recently. FYI: the original mags themselves are pretty common and easy to find on ebay, they're usually much more affordable than the freakin' comics I collect. Plus there's tons more gorgeous artwork (and photos) inside the mags that these cover book collections only slightly touch upon.

And weasles will rip your flesh too!

Erich and Karswell--I'm lucky enough to have the Taschen and FH men's adventure collections :) Further to the Taschen point--there's a Taschen store in NYC that's the second most dangerous place in Manhattan as far as my wallet is concerned. They put out some beautiful *and* affordable editions covering a wide spectrum of the art world. I've got a LOT of love for Taschen, no doubt about it!

Karswell, are you trying to get me hooked on yet *another* collecting addiction? I could drown in a sea of wacky paper ephemera at this point...!
