Maybe that's why I dig Captain Kronos so much. Sure, he's not exactly a Golden Age Hammer Horror Icon, but he's got a certain swashbuckling sense of excellence that put him in my good graces. Besides, I like arrogant bastards with swords--it's a hold-over from my pre-teen love of all things Sword & Sorcery.
In this spirit of silly fun-itude, please enjoy the first installment of the comic book adaptation of "Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter" from "Hammer's Halls of Horror" Issue 20 (released in 1978, the year of my birth--yay!). Yes, I know the depiction of Carla hardly approaches Caroline Munro levels of hottness, but then again--what character other than Vampirella can? Click on the images to go to the Flickr page--then click on ALL SIZES to read the teeny words.
...TO BE CONTINUED....!
If you guys behave yourselves, I promise to give you the SHOCKING HORROR of the conclusion early next week. I know--the suspense is killing you.

Ahh, this brings back memories... in some of the earlier issues of the mag they had some other Kronos adventures - drawn by 2000ad's Ian Gibson if I remeber rightly.
You and Curt have provided my Friday night's entertainment. Bless your little dark hearts. (And yes,I live in a dark forest hut, pick herbs by the waning moon and dress roving monster's wounds. A quiet life.)
Oh, my god. Captain Kronos. As a comic.
I think I just had an accident.
The Hammer Horror Zone REQUESTS:
"Visconti's THE DAMNED--The Graphic Novel"
failing that,
"UDO's LOVE ROMANCES"
failing THAT,
"Pam Grier Action Funnies, Starring: SISTAH V00D00"
You are goddess manifest. Dez Skinn mags rule hard!
Great Tyrant, I'd LOVE to see the other Kronos adventures! I've heard the film was intended to kick off a series of Captain Kronos adventures, and I sometimes think about how great that could've been had the vision been realized. Instead we got "Underworld" and "Van Helsing" which are... shall we say... INSUFFICIENTLY AWESOME. To put it kindly...!
You're very welcome, Brian! I just posted part two, so you can stay in again tonight. Woohoo!
Doc M--that's how I felt when I snapped this up along with the comics adaptation of "Vampire Circus." Delicious Hammer vampire goodness--yum!
Joey Zone, I saw a comic called "The Damned" in a shop on Saturday. Sadly, Dirk Bogarde and Helmut Berger were entirely absent from the proceedings so I *rapidly* lost interest. *pout*
Glad I could share the love, Maciste Brothers! Marvy folks like you make me truly enjoy sharing the fruits of my acquisitive habits :)
I *think* I still have a tatty copy of HOH 1 in the attic with one of the Kronos strips in it. If I get a chance to dig it out I'll scanand send.
Were you aware that they also did some 'Father Shandor - Demon Stalker' strips based on Andrew Keir's Sandor character from Dracula Prince of Darkness?
Hi Kate. I really enjoy your blog and the cool and obscure stuff you find and post -- like the Captain Kronos comic. Kronos was one of my favorite Hammer films and I had never seen the comic. Thanks!
Glad you liked our 1970s work on House of Hammer. Kronos was always a favourite of mine, hence getting Ian (Halo Jones) Gibson to draw a sequel for issues #1-3. If you want the full story, I've recently started a website on the magazine's history (and quite a few others I've been involved in over the years).
Not to sure about all this scanning of copyright images though!
